Minnesota State Fair new WSCA Horse Show policies:

TO: WSCA Members

FROM: Steve Pooch, MN State Fair

With each year comes change and 2008 will be no different.  We thought it might be advantageous to all concerned if the membership of WSCA knew of the major changes that might affect them as they make their entries for the State Fair as well as when they come to the event.  They are as follows:

1)    Each year we set a date for when exhibitors can order the overnight parking stickers (for camping).  This year’s date will be June 16th and you can find the detailed information in the Western Horse premium book, which can be found at www.mnstatefair.org.  The orders must be accompanied by entries.  They will again be sold on a first come, first reserved basis; not on a lottery system, as was suggested by some.

2)    We will permit, for the first time in recent history, substitutions of horses or rider after the closing date of entries.  In most cases, it must be due to a medical issue for the horse or rider.  Please refer to the premium book for specifics. The qualification of the new horse or rider must be verified by the WSCA secretary and must be completed before the start of the Western Horse show.

3)     Line-up for vehicles planning to park overnight will not be permitted, as it has been in the past, until 8 pm. Wed. August 27.  Vehicles arriving prior to that time will be required to go to our public lots and will be charged for parking for the day.

4)    The ribbon race classes, which were added in 2007, will now require qualifying.

5)    The signature on the entry form by the President or Secretary of the Saddle Club will be strictly enforced.

6)    A random drawing for class entry numbers will determine the running order.  The drawing will be done after the closing date for entries and the official running order will be posted in the Horse Show program.

7)    The entry closing date is July 21.
